St Petersburg Russia - part 3

We travelled at a leisurely pace until we reached our first bridge. Our canal boat driver set us up near the Palace Bridge, ready to start our run! Nine of the bridges open at least once per night for the larger vessels to pass then close again an hour or more later to allow cars across again. It is done in a set sequence to minimise traffic congestion.
